821 – Ranger Police Officer
Forest Preserve District of DuPage County
This position patrols District properties and preserves enforcing Federal and State law, District ordinances, and department policies and procedures ensuring the safety of preserve visitors, resources and facilities.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
• Patrols District properties and preserves enforcing Federal and State law, District ordinances, and department policies and procedures ensuring the safety of preserve visitors, resources and facilities
• Apprehend, identify, detain, and arrest offenders. Write citations, complete written reports, criminal complaints, and arrest warrants
• Respond to emergencies. Serve as a first-responder for life-threatening injuries and provides first aid
• Complete written reports on incidents, sick, injured, and traffic or boating accidents
• Conducts criminal investigations
• Perform other duties as required
Education and Experience Required
Education/Related Experience: AA/AS in criminal justice/natural resources (or related field) and two (2) years of job-related experience, or BA/BS in criminal justice/natural resources or related field.
Special training or other licenses, certification, etc.: A valid driver’s license is required. Within six (6) months of employment obtain certification by the Illinois Law Enforcement Training and Standards Board as a Sworn Peace Officer and CPR, AED and basic first aid certification.
Knowledge Of: District property and facilities; federal and state laws, District ordinances, policies, and procedures; regulations pertaining to the use of District land.
Skills In: Interacting effectively with the public; exercising good judgment, reacting calmly and effectively in stressful situations; planning and supervising the work of assigned personnel; prioritizing and managing multiple tasks and projects; handling situations firmly, courteously, tactfully and impartially; communicating effectively, verbally and in writing

Hours & Schedule: Flexible – hours may vary.
